Indians and Chineese
I have made one chineese friend and i know a a few (50) indian dudes and gals here..........and this is the observation that i have made about them especially in the graduate study advice meeting. these are the questions raised by Indians and Chineese respectively. Indian: Seniors have adviced me that communication is difficult. Could you please tell me the courses that are easy and that would fetch me an easy job somewhere. I am prepared to take any course in the huge EE area. Advicer(Very Very Serious): Please take the following courses.Blah Blah Blah........ Chineese: I want to do something in communication and i would like some help in selecting which courses i should take. I would want to take course A and course B together How would it support my further studies and how would it make me good at communication engineering area. Advicer(Happily) : Well, Son you have come to the right university. I would like you to concentrate on the following areas where Prof:X and Y work. They have done some amount of impressive work in their area and they are looking forward for a graduate student to assist them. YOu might as well take their courses and ace in them and get the assistantship position.... the courses you should take are..... blah blah blah...... And finally best of luck. You get the whole idea, right!!!!!! Indians are looked down upon as freaks and nerds in this place. And the only people responsible for it are us indians. We care only about how to make cheap money and are prepared to give up our integrity in return of some amount of money... this is a kind of prostitution. I feel bad when an American just looks at me and then looks down and smiles, eventhough trying hard to control it. There is no respect for Indians. We are considered to be cheap because we are prepared to sell ourselves... at ANY cost. Nothing that the americans do is racist.... Indians deserve to be treated cheaply. There are two big foot-ball field here... a 10000 square feet gym, four olympic size swimming pool, two olympic style diving pool. one athletic stadium and 1800 Indians, Yet how many Indians do we see in these places::: 0. Everyone is after getting A grade and getting a 4.0 GPA. But here is the fact: I happened to talk to a boozed chineese.... he was enjoying the party.... totally boozed.... he was well built and i guess was in the USC swimming team... he was in the CS department... and guess his GPA:4.0.... Indians SUCK!!!!! Same reason is the cause for seeing so many chineese hanging out with Americans... but u rarely find an Indian hanging out with an American.... its something awkard for an Indian to hang out with an American.... Consider anoter stupid Indians statement I heard the other day:- Desi(Indian) :" I like robotics, but there is no Industry demand for Robotics so i have decided to shift into communication." Me: "Dude, do what you like to do... don't care about what the industry is. If there is no market then create it for yourself. That is how companys like Oracle and IBM came up... at that time nothing in comps was at demand.... but there were some people who took the risk and then went ahead to reach the stars... do what u like to do... don't be cheap and compromising." Desi : "But... But....Blah blah......" [ I stopped hearing and responding futher] this is the attitude that has destroyed India Economically. It is simple to see why. Any major industry has to have someone who took the risk... Industry is like a machine... but with a slight unpredictability involved. You feed the resource into it, and the risk involved into it and then you get the output... the bigger the industry is the bigger is the risk and the greater the returns... it is this fact that makes and breaks big companies.... and also such thing has assured returns when u have found something of pioneering value in some new area... before your innovation the area might not be in "demand" but then u have to take some risk with your time and invest it into studying into that area and then come up with some pioneering thing in that area... and then if possible build a company out of it. Such a company has a BIG possibility of getting big... in the sense that if the product succeeds socially then the industry is BIG then and there itself. If all Indian idiots choose to do the STUFF WHICH IS EASY AND IS IN DEMAND THEN HOW THE FUCK WILL INDIA EVER HAVE SOME PIONEERING COMPANY LIKE IBM or MICROSOFT.... Indians SUCK!!!!!! and unless we change ourselves.. India will remain the same... development of the nation depends upon the development of its people.... culturaly...and in attitude... once the attitude develops; the culture develops... once the culture develops organizations develop....and in turn the whole economy develops.... thats what happens in china... and believe me china is going to go FAR FAR ahead of india... we don't even have a chance in the next 100 years. American culture is simple great... no doubt about it...and the place it has gained itself in this world... it deserves it 100%

quite thoughtful. gud that u realized it after meeting a chinese (not chineese). but I agree most of us wouldnt do anything even after observing tons of them. WHY? its nothing to do with an indian mindset or chinese mindset its all about individuals and what satisfies them in life. Gud luck to you in your pursuit. If you are one of those who is ready to kick some ass and PROVE it, I wish you the very best in life. Till then let the thoughts flow more than the wine and let the struggle for excellence be your only intoxicant.

laks, what famous brandd do china produce? that is marketable worldwide?
they re-produce branded imitations. and the quality of those products totally suck. the products are cheap, but i would not buy a china produced product if my life depended on it.
so my dear friend, if you want to compare india to a country, pls take a better example.

strong opinion...
but the indians r changing their mindset now, n they r becoming better than the chinese,of course they need time.

Let me start by saying that this is a strong opinion.
i wont retract a word. I mean what i say and say what i mean. Most of the Indians (all of whom I met here) SUCK. They are suckers in many things... and are simply not worth to be great or free (i shall post mode on freedom later) I think i have not been very clear on what i said. So let me make myself very clear.
Rajiv: I don't think u know this... but whatever i said i used to say much before i met any foreigner... i realized this far back... and.. if wine used to flow more than the actions.... why should i quit a well paying job and come here. think abt it!!!!!!.
SFO:
i still feel we have a long long way to go.. and we have got a lot to do... we have to unlearn our cultural mistakes and then build a new India.
China is the biggest consumer of steel in the world.. their energy demands are nearing that of US. They are the third largest economy... and more than anything... most of them are NOT unfair...
It is attitude of the people that make or break countries. It is this sole piece of thing that counts in building up nations. Chinese have that attitude... we have yet to learn about it.
When u travel and see places you shall understand it.. and i am sure if u have interacted with some foreigners then you weould have come to know what i mean.
ALive_n_confused: Right u are... they are changing... but it will take 100 years for atleast a significant change... then only we can think about integrated development the way china is going about now.
8/15/2005 01:38:00 PM
and one more thing...
SFO:
THe company Lenevo in China has acquired HPs complete PC manufacturing arm.. that too in a hostile takeover.
And they are developing a laptop powered with a fuel cell.....
Just wait for some more years and see how chinese products take over the world... It could very well have been an Indian Invasion of the world...but alas!!!!! We have both congress and BJP and hundreds of parties wanting to loot the country....
Brings me to the usual question of whether India is still free or not. Because before the so called independence of India we had british who were looting us... after the independence we have the politicians looting us.More than that we have us looting ourselves. by destroying our own economy.
I am not saying India is bad by saying China is great...China is great.. no doubt about that...
All i am saying is that we have to work hard towards changing things from the roots.. and for that we should know where the roots are.
i am only giving my objective view of the reality... which may be hard to take for many nameless weak hearted Indians. *sigh* I pity them :-((

Most Indians are like that, most of the people don’t see science as passion but they only see it as a means in income, people choose their carriers by asking simple questions like selling groundnut is profitable or selling vegetables. Most people are cowards they only want to play safe because they have been trained to think that way and that is the way their coward parents and elders think and so do they. They are living with fear, and the miserable part is their ability to ask questions has been systematically killed by this bullshit culture, rituals, god and by the moron elders who cannot answer a child’s questions.
The result is that most of the people are living like dhobis and donkeys. In spite of getting the exposure that they are getting in USA they don’t change because donkeys don’t think and they don’t ask questions.

Hi laks,
1.The purpose and intended ausience for the post is not clear.
U are posting with respect to future Tatas, birlas,Murthies. But try to appreciate the fact that Most of well read/studied/working people are from typical middleclass people to whom thares no life beyond (Financial)Stability.
2.When analysing Indo-Sino,Dont forget that they are pro reform communists and we are democrats.
If china is a mammoth elephant hecause their eople/parties/policies etc are not allowed to relax and complacent by the govt.I read a beautiful article on Banks of India and china few days back in Businessworld.Pro reform Communism is major cause theirwellbeing today and encourages entreprenourship. Can u say samething abt india ?
Tommorow Idia will become/exceed what china is today.People are changing but slowly. Please wait and see.
3. Better comparision would be of India and Korea.I am really interested to know abt Koreans dominance of world in most business sectors. If u can get some info, i would be greatful.

Laks: Well dude, leaving the high paying job n stuff.. u know i thought about it already cos i myself left it before you did. I get your point. All I am trying to say is that lets not generalize. Brand INDIA cannot be set on generalization. In my opinion what we need is excellence at Individual level by Indians and then they should endorse brand INDIA.
Actually I agree with what Sudhakar said (hi Sud hows TT goin).
Cribbing wont help. Ask Questions Thats good but find the answers yourself, for no one is gonna help you.
Finally fellow Indians Lets kick some ass and ACT.

hi laks,
Hope u r having the best time of ur life there.
Coming to ur post, somehow one letter mailed by a chinese, studying in US, to Outlook magazine came to my mind. Outlook had carried out an article relating to indian quest for olympic glory. And this chinese fellow replied the same thing which u mentioned in the post. That there are hardly any indians in the gym or in the stadia. And that and that alone is a sufficient indication of why we lack in sports, in general.
If USC starts giving extra +ve grades for taking part in sports, u will definitely find more indians in the gym/stadia.
And its so hypocritical (hope the usage is right) that these same ppl ponder as to why we dont win a single olympic gold. :)
